True Cost of Absence

The average cost of sickness absence was £598 per employee per year in 2006

This is according to the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development who carry out an annual survey on Employee Absence.   To view the complete report please use the link below.

Sickness absence can be a substantial drain on any organisation.  The annual level of absence in 2006 was 3.5% of working time, this equates to 8 days per employee per year.

However, the true cost of sickness absence can be greater than is immediately apparent, if you consider the loss of productivity, having to recruit temporary workers, missed deadlines due to lack of trained, experienced employees, diminshed reputation with customers when continuity of business is lost, strain on the remaining colleagues expected to pick up the pieces.  The actual cost can sometimes be three times as much as the initial estimate.
